What we collect, and what we don’t
This page explains what information BasicsExplain collects when you visit the site, how it’s used, and the choices you have — including around the ads that keep this site free.
Last updated: October 2026Three things worth knowing up front
We don’t require an account or ask for personal details to read articles.
Ads on this site use cookies, run by Google, to show relevant ads and measure traffic.
You can turn off personalized ads and clear cookies any time from your browser or Google’s own settings.
Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy applies to basicsexplain.com, an independent website publishing explainer articles about superstitions and everyday beliefs. It’s intended for visitors from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. If you have questions, the contact details are at the bottom of this page.
Information we collect automatically
Like most websites, our server and the tools we use (such as Google Analytics) automatically collect some technical information when you visit, including:
- Your IP address and approximate location (city or region level)
- Browser type, device type and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent on the site, and the page that referred you here
- Cookies and similar technologies used for analytics and advertising
We don’t collect this to identify you personally. It’s used in aggregate, to understand which articles are useful and to keep the site running smoothly.
Information you give us directly
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive whatever you include, typically your name, email address and message. We use this only to reply to you, and don’t add it to a marketing list or share it with third parties.
How ads and cookies work on this site
BasicsExplain is free to read and supported by display advertising, including Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure how ads perform.
| Who | What they do |
|---|---|
| Google (AdSense) | Serves ads on this site and may use cookies to show ads based on your past visits here or on other sites. |
| Google Analytics | Helps us understand which articles are read and how visitors navigate the site, using aggregated, non-identifying data. |
| Third-party ad vendors | Google works with a range of advertising partners; you can see and control them through the links below. |
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies directly in their settings.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you’re located, you may have rights over the limited data described above, such as the right to ask what’s associated with your device, to opt out of personalized advertising, or to have data deleted where applicable (for example, under GDPR in the UK/EU or similar privacy laws elsewhere). Because we don’t require accounts or store personal profiles, there’s generally no personal account data to request or delete beyond cookie-based advertising identifiers, which you can clear yourself using the links above.
Children’s privacy
BasicsExplain is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Links to other websites
Our articles sometimes link to outside sources, such as news archives, academic papers or dictionaries, for further reading. We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites, so we’d encourage you to review their own policies.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted here directly rather than announced elsewhere.
